about the artist
Hey there! I'm Sam Elliott, your friendly queer artist and creative soul. I stumbled into calligraphy over 25 years ago when my great aunt, who was a professional calligrapher, got me started. I played with it off and on for years until I started offering it professionally. I love sharing the beauty that calligraphy can add to a project through my practice, commissions, and classes. I am honored to have helped a number of people get started in the calligraphy world and I hope to continue to help spread the art in the future.
I first opened the doors on my calligraphy business in 2015 in Boston under the name Earnest Bee Calligraphy + Design. As I grew, I opted to rebrand under my own name. I still create beautiful things for anyone who’s interested in calligraphy based work and take limited wedding work primarily from wedding planners. I currently live in scenic Colorado with my wife, two kids, and our dog Beau. We’ll be back in Boston in 2025 and I can’t wait to get back to work with my wedding industry friends.
Besides creating art based goods, I love to bake, adventure with my family, knit, DIY projects, and try pretty much every hobby that exists. I believe in kindness, having fun, and always learning.
I'm also an IVF warrior and miscarriage survivor. I'm always here to offer support for those going through infertility or loss. It's part of why pregnancy, birthing, and parenting are so important to me. I want to make sure we all feel supported and you'll find a number of products to back up that sentiment.

let’s work together
invitations, calligraphy, live events + commissions
I am available for work as an artist + calligrapher. I would love to chat more about what you have in mind for your project. I do art-based invitations, day of elements, personal stationery, live events, and commissioned pieces.
My style is modern pointed pen calligraphy, brush lettering, and chalk lettering. I’ve used paint, ink, coffee, acrylics, watercolors, pigments, powders, chalks, markers, crayons... the list of mediums is long. I’ve also written on pumpkins, mirrors, shells, tile, handmade paper, leaves, ornaments, boxes, glasses, and more. If you can dream it, I’m sure we can figure out how to make it happen.
If you dream of calligraphy but are struggling to fit it in your budget, I would highly recommend taking a class from me and working on learning the skills for yourself or having a crafty bridesmaid or groomsman or even parent help out. I offer group classes and one-on-one lessons for both right handed and left handed learners.
